Gylfi Sigurdsson is a football player who was born at Iceland in 8 September 1989. He is also considered as one of the professional football players in Iceland as well. Due to his nationality and his long history in football, Gylfi is chosen to play for Iceland national team and reinforce this team for playing in EURO 2016. Gylfi has been playing football since 2002 when he joined Fimleikafelag Hafnarfjaroar. In 2003 he joined the club of Bredablik and joined the training in Preston North End. In 1 October 2005, Gylfi get scholarship in Reading FC. In 2008, Gylfi signed his first professional contract in Reading FC. Gylfi showed his debut for Reading FC in League Cup match against Luton Town. Gylfi also scored penalty goal in League Cup match against Stoke City as well. Gylfi is loaned for one month to Shrewsbury Town where he scored his first goal for league in his debut match against Bournemouth in October 2008.
In February 2009, he signed the loan contract to Crewe Alexandra and performed his debut two days after signed the contract in a match against Brighton. In March, Gylfi extend his contract with Crewe until the end of the season. Gylfi scored his first goal in 2009 – 2010 seasons for Reading FC in a match against Burton Albion on August 2009. His first league goal for Reading is created in a match against Peterborough United in September 2009. In 31 August 2010, Gylfi signed contract with 1899 Hoffenheim with transfer cost £ 6,500,000. He started his debut for Hoffenheim in September 2010. His first goal for Hoffenheim is created in a match against Kaiserslautern. In 4 July 2012, he signed contract with Tottenham Hotspur. The transfer cost for Gylfi is about £ 8,000,000.
Gylfi is also one of the football players who play for Iceland U-17 national team. He appeared in UEFA U-19 in 2008. He played in qualification round and can score two goals. Gylfi performed his debut for Iceland U-21 national team in a match against Germany in November 2007. Four days after that match, he appeared in qualification round of UEFA U-21 2009. In May 2010, Gylfi performed his debut for Iceland national team in a match against Andorra where he played for 90 minutes long. That match ended with 4 – 0 score and bring victory to Iceland.
